I hope it is reflected in my course work that I really enjoy many aspects of design with a bias towards graphic design. I also find experimenting with media has helped me look into different concepts regards using different mediums, paint, charcoal, pencil and stuff.
Having researched propaganda as part of my AS Unit 2 assignment in which I have found to be a very interesting topic. Having been inspired by early 1900 posters I designed a series of propaganda posters using this theme. This has led me in my AS Unit 1 to produce work which is heavily based on the propaganda theme. I have experimented designing propaganda posters, graphically and with water colours. Having looked back on my work with a critical eye I believe that the posters produced using Photoshop created the better overall image and conveyed the message I was trying to get over/achieve.
I was particularly taken with the design, colour and impact that go into producing magazine covers. For my final AS Unit 1 project I produced the four magazine covers and these can be seen on the final passage of my blog. I thoroughly enjoyed this project and hopefully this is reflected in my work. Creating the design and artwork of the magazine covers using Photoshop really helped me to understand the fundamentals of using this software and my confidence grew with each cover. My inspiration for the magazine covers came from various mediums including i-D magazine, I used the theme of seasons with a humorous approach to entice the reader to purchase.
Outside of college my magazine covers caught the eye of my father who asked me to design a leaflet for his company as part of a mail shot campaign. The brief was to produce something eye catching and relevant in a short time frame and within a budget. I was really pleased they used my design and it was most rewarding to see the printed leaflet being used. This has widened my knowledge and understanding of working within a budget and to a tight deadline.
Since a young age I have always enjoyed art and design, as I have grown up it has always been an ambition of mine to work somewhere in the Art and Design career track and Interior design has always stood out to me and became even more appealing after I attended one week of work experience and ‘Guy Goodfellow’s’.
